While touring Australia last month, Bruce Springsteen covered several of the country’s most famous artists, including AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell”, INXS’ “Don’t Change”, and Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive”. Last night, his High Hopes world tour landed in Auckland, New Zealand and can you guess which song the Boss tackled? None other than Lorde’s “Royals”. No, really.
The 64-year-old rock legend kicked off the show by performing a solo acoustic rendition of the 17-year-old pop singer’s chart-topping song of the year. As Rolling Stone points out, Springsteen tweaked the lyrics slightly, singing, “you can call me king bee” instead of “queen bee”.
Update: Bruce has shared a pro-shot video of his performance.
Stay tuned tomorrow for Springsteen’s cover of “Business Time” by Flight of the Conchords.
