Step aside, Arcade Fire. Me thinks deadmau5 might have a new nemesis on his hands.
On a recent episode of his CNN travel and food show, Parts Unknown, Anthony Bourdain had some scathing words for EDM, its purveyors and fanatics. During a conversation with Penn Jillette (of famed magic duo Penn & Teller), he commented on Las Vegas’ recent lack of quality live music. The reason for such a dearth in a city known for its nightlife?
“These days, for better or worse, live acts, live performers are being squeezed out in favor of EDM, electronic dance music,” he says. “It’s a DJ’s world, and where once they used to say cocaine was God’s way of telling you you had too much money, now maybe EDM is.”
But Bourdain’s most biting remarks come when, over footage of club-happy youngins wielding glow-sticks, he summons the EDM world, sarcastically proclaiming: “Come ye lordes and princelings of douchedom!”
