Cerebral Ballzy announce new album, Jaded & Faded, listen to “Lonely As America”

Brooklyn punk outfit Cerebral Ballzy will release their sophomore album, Jaded & Faded, on June 17th via Julian Casablancas’ Cult Records. The follow-up to their 2011 self-titled debut sees the band expand upon their hardcore repertoire, making use of more power-pop chords and denser subject matter beyond girls, pizza, and beer.

“We didn’t want to write the same album with different song titles,” drummer Tom Kogut told Rolling Stone. “We went into writing a lot of the songs with no set plans. We’re going for this punky abrasive sound done with such a casual melody.”

For a taste of a cleaner, friendlier Cerebral Ballzy, check out the Dave Sitek-produced lead single, “Lonely As America”. Clocking in a staggering three minutes, the track finds exploring more of a skate-punk sound, with rollicking guitar chords, a greater range of rhythms and harmonies, and the noticeable sheen offered by a high-end studio. Yet despite the poppy sound, the band maintains a punkish sense of subversion with especially cutting lyrics.

“‘Lonely as America’ is about the vapid existence that so many of us fall into, shrouded under the guise of everyday life,” explained frontman Honor Titus. “This respective track is a bit more subdued and melodic. Something no one would expect from our initial effort.”
