On Thursday night, Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. By the looks of it, surviving members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear will also be performing during the ceremony. But who will sing lead? Paul McCartney and Michael Stipe have been two of the more popular candidates, and while their participation may still hold true, it was Joan Jett’s Melody Maker prominently displayed alongside Kris’ bass, Pat’s guitar, and Dave’s drums in the Instagram photo shared by Foo Fighters today (via Stereogum). Jett doesn’t have any real connection to Kurt Cobain or Nivana, but she has performed with Grohl in the past. Plus, she’s the sort of left field choice that’d be immune to critiques and comparisons to Cobain. We’ll find out for sure Thursday night.

Update: It’s official! Joan Jett is fronting Nirvana at the Induction Ceremony. Below, check out some low-grade footage of them rehearsing “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.
