Pharrell Williams has already made us “Happy”, and now he just wants us to “Smile”. Terrible, terrible pun aside, “Smile” serves as the Japanese bonus track for his latest solo effort, G I R L. Like its minimally-titled predecessor, it too is a simple and straightforward slice of pop balladry, with Pharrell crooning falsetto over a mix of quaint piano and chipper synths. Equal parts dance song and love song, its rays of aural sunshine are so infectious that I am already eagerly anticipating its own 24-hour music video. (Well, maybe not. )
