The Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy pulled double duty last night, not only appearing on the season finale of Parks and Recreation, but also at CBC Radio’s Q Live event in Portland alongside other “locally-grown” acts Carrie Brownstein and The Thermals.
There, Meloy discussed his series of children’s books The Wildwood Chronicles, why he’d never move to Los Angeles, and, most importantly, debuted a brand new song entitled “Carolina Low”. How new is the track, you might ask? Well, he wrote it just hours before the performance. “I didn’t know what to play so I thought I would write something for it,” Meloy told the audience.

Next month, Meloy and the rest of the Decemberists are set to hit the stage together in Portland for their first proper concert in three years.
