With his confident and diverse 2013 debut Innanetape, Vic Mensa placed himself at the forefront of young Chicago rappers ready to take the next step. After a brief tour with dance wunderkinds Disclosure, Mensa returns with a new song “Down On My Luck”, one which is heavily influenced by his former tourmates.

Though Mensa already gave Disclosure’s “When A Fire Starts To Burn” a fiery freestyle, with “Down On My Luck” he makes his own electronic banger. With a billowing, driving house beat courtesy of producer Stefan Ponce, Mensa channels his friend Chance The Rapper with an effective hybrid of soulful crooning and breakneck-paced rapping.
