Throughout the month of May, David Byrne will head an all-star tribute to Nigerian synth and funk pioneer William Onyeabor. Featuring Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor, former LCD Soundsystem percussionist Pat Mahoney, Luke Jenner of The Rapture, Devonté Hynes a.k.a. Blood Orange, Sinkane, jazz saxophonist Joshua Redman, Money Mark, and The Lijadu Sisters performing for the first time in 30 years, the supergroup will perform May 2nd and 3rd at Brooklyn’s BAM as part of Red Bull Music Academy Festival. They’ll then reprise the performance at San Francisco’s The Warfield on May 6th and Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre on May 8th.
In anticipation, Byrne and the Atomic Band unveiled themselves to the world, serving as the musical guest on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show. They performed “Fantastic Man” and David Byrne wore a red cowboy hat. Watch the replay below.
