LIsten: Baths new song “Fade White”

A week ago, Los Angeles electronic artist Will Wiesenfeld, a.k.a Baths, unveiled “Ocean Death”, the title track to a forthcoming EP that serves as a “companion piece” to last May’s Obsidian. Now, seven days later, Wiesenfeld returns with the effort’s second of five tracks, “Fade White”.

According to a press release, Ocean Death is all about “death, apathy, and loneliness”. Yet, “Fade White” is actually a surprisingly energetic and hopeful ballad. Strings, guitar, and drums whirl and prance about in perfect tandem, surging with a kind of shimmery enthusiasm that’s only further enhanced by Wiesenfeld’s playful tenor. Sure, he’s singing utterly depressive lines like “Come fade away with me”, but it all sounds more like some grand romantic gesture than this desperate cry for help.
