Listen: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s new song “As Always”

As previously reported, Philly’s Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will self-release their fourth studio album, Only Run, on June 3rd. In a press release, frontman Alec Ounsworth said the album is about “balancing optimism in the face of overwhelming odds”. More than just an over-arching concept, that sentiment’s also an apt description for the latest single, “As Always”.

Here, Ounsworth’s forceful wail serves as a beam of ethereal optimism and pure emotion. All the while, the “overwhelming odds”, as represented by an ominous, almost spooky deluge of drums and guitars, inch closer and closer to consuming the entire soundscape. The song’s success is less about which force ends up winning and more about the captivating emotional back-and-forth that results.

Watch the accompanying music video below, which features a man an engaged in an evening of some heavy-duty debauchery.
