On June 3rd, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will release their fourth studio album, Only Run. The follow-up to 2011’s Hysterical and their first effort without multi-instrumentalist Robbie Guertin and bassist Tyler Sargent (who departed in July 2012), the forthcoming nine-track LP sees frontman Alec Ounsworth “finding [a] renewed sense of optimism.” Following the Matt Berninger-assisted lead single “Coming Down” and the driving atmosphere of “As Always”, the band has delivered another taste of the new record with its titular track.
Opening with a haunting vocal sample that repeats “it’s a beautiful world,” a pounding bassline gives a propulsive boot to the song’s momentum. Other instruments slowly start to trickle in, with dashes of pianos, urgently strummed acoustic guitars, and snappy percussion all coming to a crescendo during the song’s explosive final third. While he’s received the comparison before, here especially Ounsworth’s escalating warble reaches Thom Yorke-levels of intensity. Listen in below.
Pre-orders for the album are ongoing.
Right when the album hits stores, CYHSY will embark on an extensive summer tour. Full dates are below.
