Last summer, experimental musician Julianna Barwick released Nepenthe, an entire album inspired by Iceland (which is, FYI, actually green). Now, she’s got a new and admittedly unexpected muse for her brand of ambient folk: beer.
Barwick’s teaming up with Dogfish Head brewers for her very own IPA called “Rosabi”, which includes hints of red rice and wasabi. To help celebrate the unlikely collaboration, she’ll be issuing an EP called Rosabi.
As Pitchfork notes, much of the music features sounds of the actual brewing process. If that’s not enough of a tie-in, customers who purchase the physical EP (limited to 1,000 copies) will receive a six-pack of the Barwick beer.
For a taste of Rosabi — the EP, that is — listen to “Meet You at Midnight”. While it doesn’t quite have the kick of real wasabi, it’s hard not feel totally overcome by the track’s spectral beauty. Check it out below.
The Rosabi EP is due out June 3rd via Dead Oceans
