Scoring films live is sort of becoming a new trend. Reggie Watts performed Legend a few years back and Radiohead’s Johnny Greenwood recently announced a series of shows during which he’ll stage There Will Be Blood. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, The Andy Warhol Museum is putting a one-of-a-kind spin on the concept.
Galaxie 500’s Dean Wareham is curating an called “Exposed: Songs for Unseen Warhol Films”, set for October 24th at UCLA’s Center for the Art of Performance. It will see Wareham, Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox, Eleanor Friedberger, Tom Verlaine of Television, and Suicide’s Martin Rev all provide live scores to 15 previously unseen Warhol films.
Following the premiere, the collective will tour the performances nationally, with stops planned at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House in New York (November 6th-8th) and at the Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh, PA (October).
According to BAM, the films feature Warhol along with John Giorno, Marcel Duchamp, Mario Montez, Jim Rosenquist, Billy Kluver, Marisol, Taylor Mead, Mary Woronov, and Edie Sedgwick.
This is not the first time Wareham has scored a Warhol film; In 2011, he participated in 13 Most Beautiful… Songs from Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests with his musical partner Britta Phillips. Watch footage from that performance below.
