Watch: Ben Folds, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Liz Phair audition for Star Wars Cantina Band

If Funny Or Die’s hysterical, cameo-heavy Postal Service tryouts, Josh Homme gunning to be the first “Ginger Droid”, and Daniel Ralston’s on-the-money SNL band auditions have taught us anything, it’s that fake audition videos are a really good way to bring in loads of unexpected guests for optimal comedic value.

The latest riff on this burgeoning genre comes from College Humor, who partnered up with LucasFilm and YouTube to cast new members in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope’s Mos Eisely Cantina Band, (or if we’re going to get technical about it, Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes).

Directed by Matthew Pollock, the clip sees an eclectic cast of artists audition with newfound Star Wars personas; Ben Folds is “BF-1138”, a renegade Storm Trooper, Liz Phair is “Liz Ph’Air”, an anti-Empire activist, and Weird Al Yankovic goes Twi’lek as “Weird Al’Attacka’Duwacca”. Artists like Reggie Watts, Rick Springfield, Jordin Sparks, Mark McGrath, Lisa Loeb, and Chris Daughtry also make hilarious cameos, with Daughtry surprisingly having some of the best lines. I’m shocked too. Watch it below (h/t Stereogum).
