Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros have parted ways with their longtime vocalist Jade Castrinos.

The exact circumstances regarding her departure are a bit unclear, though a posting on Castrinos’ Instagram page (via Jambase) suggests that she was fired shortly before the band kicked off their latest North American tour. “For seven years I sang and wrote music with Edward Sharpe,” she wrote. “They voted me off of tour a week before they left, via email. lol”

Band leader Alex Ebert apparently responded to the news in a since-deleted Facebook post. According to Jambase’s transcription, Ebert refused to go into details “out of respect for Jade,” but added, “we did not feel right doing this tour with Jade. That fact breaks my heart in ways I don’t want to describe.

Edward Sharpe have a number of tour dates scheduled between now and October. Click here to see their full schedule.
