Last month, Phil Collins hit a middle school stage and performed Genesis songs for the first time in almost a decade. The unexpected moment was exciting — especially given how great Collins sounded — but ultimately felt like an inconsequential footnote whose impact wouldn’t exceed much beyond a Wikipedia page edit.
But now, comes another surprise that only further fuel the rumor mill: Genesis’ classic lineup — Collins, Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, and Steve Hackett — have reunited for a new BBC 2 documentary on the band. Entitled Together and Apart, the film will reportedly feature new interviews with all five members. What’s more, they all appear together in a promotional photograph (above).
Considering all of the above, one could easily speculate that the band has even grander plans, and according to Genesis-News.com, the possibility for a more full-fledged reunion definitely isn’t out of the question:
There are still rumours that the band has more plans, yet it’s still unclear what that might be. So, the wait may not be over yet. It looks like this year the band itself is simply coming back to life, but at this point they only know what that means…
It’s worth noting, as Stereogum points out, that the band’s acclaimed double album, 1974’s The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, turns 40 later this year. The classic lineup last performed together in 1982.
