Last summer, rising British songstress Laura Welsh gave us the enticing, neo-soul ballad “Cold Front”. Since then, she’s released a string of equally promising tracks and remixes, including her massive U.K. hit with Gorgon City, “Here For You”. Welsh returns to the spotlight this week with a new solo single called “Break The Fall”.

Though solid tracks in their own right, both “Cold Front” and “Here For You” showcased a mostly subdued Laura Welsh — her vocals, precise and poignant, either took on a quiet, vulnerability quality or were simply camouflaged in a tapestry of throbbing electronic music. Here on “Break The Fall” however, she is as powerful and prominent as we’ve ever seen her, her voice front-and-center to steal the show. With the soulful oomph of Florence Welch and even the big pop presence of Kelly Clarkson (anyone else hear “Miss Independent” in the chorus?), it’s evident Welsh has a bright future ahead.
