Earlier this week, Prince revealed that in addition to a long-in-the-works record with his band 3rdEyeGirl, dubbed PLECTRUMELECTRUM, he was simultaneously at work on a new “Prince album.”

Among the tracks supposedly featured on the LP are an electro-funk balled entitled “The Gold Standard”, a remix of the 3rdEyeGirl track “Funk ‘n’ Roll”, a collaboration with UK singer Rita Ora that features rapping, and “This Could Be Us”, which was inspired by the meme from Purple Rain. That’s right, a meme set to music.

To prove that last one is an actual thing on Planet Earth, Prince tweeted out a link to download a 36-second snippet of the track. From the snippet, it’s a sweet and sensuous ballad mixing bits of blues piano, gospel harmonies, and the Purple One’s signature falsetto. And, yes, he does actually croon, “This could be us, but you playing.”
