If you’re looking for a real-life example of irony, look no further than the fate of the George Harrison Tree. The 10-foot tall pine, planted in memory of the former Beatle near Los Angeles’ Griffith Observatory in 2004, was recently infested by — wait for it — beetles, causing it to die. So to recap, beetles killed The Beatles member’s tree.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the tree will eventually be replanted. In the meantime, the commemorative plaque still remains, greeting visitors with the following message: “In memory of a great humanitarian who touched the world as an artist, a musician and a gardener.” It also includes a quote from the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: “For the forest to be green, each tree must be green.”
