Under the familial moniker Tweedy, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and his son Spencer have been previewing material from their forthcoming Sukierae while out on tour. Thanks to a recording from their set at Mountain Jam, we’ve already heard 12 fresh songs from the band. Now, though, they’ve released the studio version of one of those jams: “Summer Noon”.
The chugging folk number marches on a steady beat, a deceptively buoyant rhythm. While his guitar twinkles over his son’s tramping drumming, the elder Tweedy warns, “Never leave your mother’s womb/ Unless you wanna see how hard a broken heart can swoon.” It’s a fair point, but maybe something he should’ve discussed with Spencer first. Take a listen below.
Sukierae is due out September 16th on Wilco’s own dBpm Records. Tweedy will continue to preview the record throughout the summer, including during a stop at Newport Folk Festival. After the album drop, they’ll play a few European gigs in November. Check out their full itinerary below.
