For her upcoming debut solo album, Crush SongsYeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O gathered together a collection of songs she’d written nearly a decade ago during a period of particular romantic uncertainty. “When I was 27, I crushed a lot,” she said. “I wasn’t sure I’d ever fall in love again. These songs were written and recorded in private around this time. They are the soundtrack to what was an ever continuing love crusade. I hope they keep you company on yours.”

Today, we get our first dispatch from the love-sick Oscar nominee as she unveils a delicate, lo-fi ballad called “Rapt”. In the accompanying video, directed by Karen’s husband Barney Clay, the YYYs singer is submerged under a pool of water — sort of like that one scene in Breaking Bad.

Crush Songs is due out September 9th via Julian Casablancas’ own Cult Records. The album will first be released as a limited-edition vinyl incorporating Karen’s own personal drawings and handwritten lyrics. It will then be available digitally, on CD, and as a single vinyl release. Pre-orders are now ongoing.
