Longtime drummer of Primus, Tim Alexander, has suffered a heart attack and will need emergency open-heart surgery, the band has announced on its Facebook page.

Alexander has been part of three different incarnations of Primus, first joining the band in 1988. After his departure in 1996, he rejoined the band in 2003. Six years later, he left Primus once again, only to return for a third time in 2013. He appeared on seven of the band’s albums, including 1991’s Sailing the Seas of Cheese and 1993’s Pork Soda.

In addition to Primus, Alexander has drummed on three albums by Puscifer, including 2007’s “V” Is for Vagina. He’s also worked with A Perfect Circle.
