Shara Worden will return with her fifth full-length album as My Brightest Diamond, This Is My Hand, on September 16th via Asthmatic Kitty. Tomorrow, though, she’ll ease the two-month wait with a new EP entitled None More Than You, which you can stream in full below.
The five-track EP pulls in influence from a variety of sources as well as life experiences, something Worden prides herself on being able to assimilate. “What doesn’t work is when someone says they’re trying to bring a little bit of this and a little bit of that and you can see all of those influences,” she told Cool Hunting earlier in the year. “Hopefully you can successfully integrate them. It takes years of thinking about things to achieve this, for me it has been a lot of thinking.”
For None More Than You, it seems she was thinking about Buster Keaton, Walt Whitman, and artist Matthew Barney. Worden’s work with Barney on the experimental film The River of Fundament helped inspire “Whoever You Are”, a song that borrows lyrics from a Whitman poem. “Dreams Don’t Look Like” began as part of Worden’s score for the silent Buster Keaton film The Ballonatic. Yet for all these outside reference points, the music is as always funneled into the ambitious, layered arrangements of My Brightest Diamond.
You can stream the entirety of None More Than You below, and pre-order the limited edition translucent lavender vinyl here.
