The Libertines to release new album in 2015

Unlike in 2010, when The Libertines briefly reunited for a pair of festival gigs, the band’s current comeback has the makings of something much more permanent. Soon after Peter Doherty and Co. announced plans for a series of concerts this summer, their first in four years, Doherty teased the idea of releasing new music. Now, his bandmate Carl Barât has gone one step further, promising that a new album will indeed surface in 2015.

Speaking to NME, Barât explained that new material has “always” been part of the plan. “Next year, it has to be,” he said of a potential release date. “I don’t wanna just go on the road because then you’ll get cabin fever and have an epic fallout. So yeah, I want to keep something fresh coming in. We just need to find the time.”

Doherty added that the band could hit the studio in October or November.

In the meantime, The Libertines will continue their reunion jaunt through Europe. See their updated schedule. Also, watch footage of them performing “Can’t Stand Me Now” during a recent show in Dublin.
