The New Pornographers share new song/video “War on the East Coast”

In August, The New Pornographers will return with their first new album in four years. Entitled Brill Bruisers, the 13-track effort serves as the follow-up to 2010′s Together. It will see release on August 26th via Matador Records.

Already we’ve heard the album’s bombastic and vibrant title track. Today, they’ve revealed another earworm of a rocker in “War On The East Coast”, which comes accompanied by an ambitious, one-shot music video that looks to pay homage to 90s Britpop (via Pitchfork).

“For ‘War on the East Coast’ we were excited to pay homage to those brilliant 90s music videos where the artist’s personality is prominently featured in one long unbroken shot,” director Thom Glunt explained in an issued statement. “It was exciting to choreograph this video and call on the dedication and talents of the band’s fans (who appear as the video’s cast) to help us realize this vision for such a great song. I hope you enjoy watching the video as much as I enjoyed making it.”

The New Pornos’ A.C. Newman, who stars in the video alongside Dan Bejar, added: “We were going for some mid-nineties second-tier Britpop attitude. In the past, I’ve never really wanted to be in the video. But with this, we wanted to have fun and fully be IN the video.”
