“Weird Al” Yankovic delivers anti-ESPN anthem with “Sports Song”

    This week, spoof extraordinaire “Weird Al” Yankovic released his new album, Mandatory Fun. In celebration, he’s been sharing a new song off the LP and its corresponding music video each day. Already we’ve seen/heard his parodies of Pharrell (“Tacky”), Robin Thicke (“Word Crimes”), Lorde (“Foil”), and Iggy Azalea (“Handy”). Now with original composition “Sports Song”, the “Weird” one has set his skewering skills on the wide world of sports and the insane (read: rabid) rivalries they typically produce.

    “Our stats are thoroughly impressive / Our coach really has the Midas touch / Our players are fast and strong and brave / And your guys, eh, not so much,” he bluntly calls out. In the accompanying visual, Al is similarly loud and straightforward. Here, he leads a marching band across a football field while doling out sharp-tongued quips to the visiting team.
