Singer-songwriter Will Oldham, aka Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, will release his 10th proper studio album, Singer’s Grave a Sea of Tongues, on September 23rd via Drag City/Domino. That’s the hand-drawn cover art above.

The follow-up to his 2013 self-titled LP comes accompanied by a decidedly vague, slightly ominous statement: “At the locus of five corners, mythos is in the wind; a sea of tongues boils forth, mountains spurting forth from the magma. Bonny sings for who he was and will be, and for all of us, in time.”

Those in search of more details will be hard-pressed to find any in the centerpiece of Oldham’s PR campaign. Billed as the “most awkward radio innerview ever,” the clip finds Oldham interviewed by (the hopefully fictitious) Q101 radio station. Across 17 minutes, he hints at what might be a few actual insights, including a “conceptual” lead single about two people who died back in 1973. But mostly he just threatens the DJ with bodily harm, pokes fun at the station itself, and does his best preening Prima donna impression.

Listen to the “innerview” below. If you’ve heard of the “no press” approach, this is the “make sure no one covers me ever again” approach.

Pre-orders for the album are ongoing.
