Guitar Center’s new Times Square location might be the worst place on Earth

Like every other New Yorker, I consider Times Square the worst place on Earth. It’s too flashy, too loud, and frankly, those walking cartoon characters made me uncomfortable even before all those recent assaults. Now, there’s another reason to stay the hell off Broadway and 7th between West 42nd and 47th. Last week, Guitar Center opened their 28,000-square-foot flagship store right smack in the center of the madness, and guitar-mageddon quickly followed.

A video posted to Reddit on August 8th, one day after the mega-store’s grand opening, offers a first-hand look at the madness that ensues when you give wannabe rock stars and broists (bro + tourist) access to over-priced guitars and amps-aplenty. With a few dozen drum and guitar solos echoing off one another, it sounds like someone put a terrible garage band right on top of the ol’ medulla oblongata. If there is an upside, it’s that no one seems to be breaking any guitar store’s single, cardinal rule: no “Stairway to Heaven” solos.

Watch footage below. Warning: Brace yourself for the cacophony.
