Listen: Death Valley Girls new song “Gettin’ Hard”

Los Angeles punk outfit Death Valley Girls aren’t ones to slow down. Earlier this year, the group dropped their debut album, Street Venom, which featured the tenacious track “Arrow”. Already they’re prepping the release of a follow-up EP, entitled Electric High, due out later this fall via Lolipop Records. Last month they shared the blistering title track, and today they cut loose its raucous B-side, “Gettin’ Hard”.

The track’s distorted vocals and fuzzed-out guitars are practically ripped from the earliest entry in the annals of proto-punk (an amazing feat given they formed just last year). Vocalist Bonnie Bloomgarden sneers with vicious conviction, hitting shrill notes as the drums drudge along menacingly. Though the guitars are loud in the mix, they sound truly distant, as if they’re being recorded through a brick wall. It’s a gritty throwback to the very early days of punk, right down to the gnarly basement production and copious attitude.
