UK electro producer Derwin Powers, aka Gold Panda, released his latest album Half of Where You Live this past summer, but already he’s at work on the follow-up LP. As a preview of his sessions in Chelmsford, England, Powers has shared a new, one-off track entitled “Clarke’s Dream”.
I can only assume that the track’s title is an homage to legendary writer Arthur C. Clarke. The godfather of intergalactic sci-fi is a fitting choice, as the song’s energetic loop of low, skittish percussion and mutilated funk horns sounds like a medley that Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes might play at Mos Eisley. If the song is any indication of where the actual record is headed, it’s going to an intriguing but highly rhythmic affair.

Gold Panda’s next album is due out sometime in 2015. In addition to further recording, he’ll be on the road this fall, including an appearance at Outside Lands this weekend. Consult the full schedule here.
