Listen: Zeus’ new song “Straight Through The Light”

Having spent much of their existence exploring all things ’70s rock, Toronto’s Zeus instead set their sights on more “heartfelt pop” with their upcoming fourth album, Classic Zeus. Lead single “Miss My Friends” certainly seemed a profound step in that direction, stripped of all the past grit and grim in favor of a breezy, radio-friendly aesthetic.

Even still, Zeus haven’t abandoned their messier side entirely, as they demonstrate with “Straight Through The Light”. Like its predecessor, this latest track is both heartfelt and poppy, a mix of feel-good group harmonies, slow-churning guitars, and messages of hope and peace more uplifting than the tightest hug. Yet under the warm outer surface, there’s tinges of psychedelia and bits of Eagles folk rock that give the track a bit more weight and oomph.
