According to TMZ, Suge Knight was seriously wounded after being shot six times during a VMA pre-party hosted by Chris Brown in West Hollywood early Sunday morning. Knight was rushed to an area hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He is currently in ICU, but is expected to recover.

At least two other people are also reported to have been shot at the party. Upon arrival, police drew their guns and made attendees exit the party with their hands raised.

Knight, 49, is the co-founder of legendary hip-hop label Death Row Records, responsible for the release of albums by Dr. Dre, Tupac, Snoop Dogg, and many others. He’s also infamous for his long history of legal troubles, which led to multiple prison stints on various assault and drug-related convictions.

Ironically enough, this is not the first time Knight has been shot while attending a VMAs party. In 2005, he suffered a gun shot wound to the leg at an event hosted by Kanye West.

Update: Knight’s family has released a statement to Revolt: “The family of Suge Knight ask that you keep Suge in your prayers and to stray away from the negativity portrayed by the media. Suge is currently resting and has lost a lot of blood, he’s human. He’s done a lot of things for the community and the culture as a whole so we ask that you respect that.”
