Last month, Marcus Haney made headlines when a trailer for his unique DIY documentary, No Cameras Allowed, hit the Internet. The film follows Haney as he sneaks into various music festivals across the world and captures the performances he witnesses. After having the film screened last month at Los Angeles’ The Wiltern Theater, the intrepid filmmaker will see his work receive its television premiere on MTV on August 29th at 10 p.m. PT/ET.
For the project, Haney spent over three years running, jumping, and faking his way into over 50 music festivals and events, including Bonnaroo, Coachella, Glastonbury, Austin City Limits, and even the Grammys. Along his journey, Haney hitchhiked across the country, created fake festival wristbands, and befriended bands like Mumford and Sons and The Naked and Famous, the latter of which provided songs for the doc.
Haney describes the film as not just about a guy who sneaks into festivals, but a “coming of age story set in a music world. It’s a love letter written to these festivals, in a way. And it shows them in such a great light that my goal is that people will see my film and then go and experience live music on their own.”
