Indie rock outfit Francisco The Man have been a band on-and-off for the past seven years, but have just one single EP to their name. There’s ample reason for the general inactivity, though: The last near-decade has seen the foursome take plenty of time off,  move from Riverside, CA to Los Angeles, swap out members a few times, and even endure a near-death experience at a roller rink. Finally, after a sustained period of performing and recording, Francisco The Man will release their debut LP, Loose Ends, out October 27th via Fat Possum/Small Plates Records.

The record’s lead single, “Big Ideas”, blends ominous vocal melodies with pummeling drums to capture a sense of restlessness. “I don’t mind if falling off is how I spend my time,” frontman Scotty Cantino wails on the opening verse as Brock Woolsey’s guitar screeches in the background. It’s an ode to the self-doubt that comes with making sacrifices for your ideals and dreams., a concept best exemplified on the soaring chorus: “Do I wanna be with your or be alone with my big ideas?” Given the band’s unique history, it’s a rather fitting topic that they spin with bravado and raw emotionality.
