Next week, Tim Fite returns with his new album, iBeenHACKED. The 18-track effort follows 2012’s Aint Aint Aint and is described as a “music/art project satirizing and celebrating the highs and lows of digital culture, examining the ways technology and connectivity are hacking our daily lives, and altering the codes that we live by.”
Already we’ve heard him poke fun at Facebook users (“Like”) and reflect on clones and social isolation (“iBeenHacked”). Now, the Brooklyn musician has unveiled his latest album cut, “Big MAC”. While its title might call to mind a certain greasy burger, the glitchy number is actually a tongue-in-cheek takedown of Apple and the company’s larger-than-life rollout events. In an accompanying message, Fite pleads his case:
“When it comes to the latest developments in personal computing technology, SIZE MATTERS! And, nobody is bigger than APPLE, a company that has become known for BIG ideas, BIG release events, BIG prices, and most recently their BIG iPhone 6. The song Big MAC satirizes the gotta-have-it-now lifestyle marketing that has made Apple products the BIGGEST status symbol of our time: “iPhone 8, I can’t wait, for Siri to sit on my face.”
