Tom Hiddleston to play Hank Williams in biopic: watch him sing “Move It on Over”

It was recently announced that actor Tom Hiddleston (aka Loki from the Thor and Avengers series) will star as country legend Hank Williams in the upcoming biopic I Saw The Light. With production set to begin next month in Louisiana, Hiddleston decided to prep for the role by covering the hard-living singer during a surprise appearance at Michigan’s Wheatland Music Festival.

Hiddleston may not quite look the cowboy part (yet), but his rendition of “Move It on Over” did a fairly impressive job of replicating Williams’ folksy charm and signature hound-dog-meets-heartthrob croon. Plus, I just can’t wait to see him in a 10-gallon hat as opposed to this.

And here’s the original for comparison.

I Saw The Light is an adaptation of Colin Escott’s 1994 book Hank Williams: The Biography. According to sources, the film will trace “Williams’ short, tumultuous life,” beginning with his early years in Alabama, on to his abrupt rise to fame, and ending with his sudden death at 29 from heart failure. The film will have access to Williams’ back catalog, which includes hits like “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” and “Hey Good Lookin’”. The film is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2015.
