The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy debuts “Lake Song” while busking — watch

    On Friday, Colin Meloy announced The Decemberists’ new record, What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful Worldby busking for fans on a Brooklyn street corner. Meloy played a handful of Decemberists favorites in addition to premiering a few new songs. We’ve already heard the jangly “Make Me Better”, and now video of “Lake Song” has appeared online.

    The soft and sweet song sees the narrator reflecting on young, lost love. “And I, seventeen and terminally fay/ I wrote it down and threw it all away,” Meloy sings, “And never gave a thought to what I’d pay.” Meloy also performed “The Crane Wife” and “Don’t Carry It All”, and you can watch all three below.

    The band’s seventh studio record and first since 2011’s The King Is Dead, What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World is due January 20th.
