Rising New Zealand dream pop outfit Yumi Zouma have had quite the prosperous year thus far. Winter marked the release of their debut EP via Cascine Records, a four-track collection anchored by gems like “The Brae” and “A Long Walk Home For Parted Lovers”. Meanwhile, spring brought on a unique collaboration with Swedish Balaeric pop duo Air France. Now, the trio return this fall with a one-two punch of a new single called “Alena”, and a string of tour dates supporting global pop star and fellow Kiwi, Lorde.
Like much of the enchanting pop found on their EP, “Alena” feels cool and weightless, its pastel synths and harmonies as soothing as ribbons of silk falling softly on the skin. However, the track isn’t just lullaby tenderness — thanks to ripples of washed out house beats, the song also has the makings of a blissful dance number.
