In the past, Sky Ferreira has admitted to feeling a certain kinship to Courtney Love. Meanwhile, it’s no secret that Ferreira’s beau, DIIV frontman Zachary Cole Smith, has a strong affinity for Kurt Cobain. During Thursdays night’s show at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, the indie rock lovebirds got a chance to pay tribute to their idols by covering the 1994 Cobain-Hole collaboration, “Asking For It”.

Emphasizing slightly more brooding overtones than the original’s jangly vibes, the pair’s rendition saw Ferriera channel a similar kind of raw intensity and furious passion that Love delivered some two decades ago. Watch fan-shot footage of the cover below.

Also during the show, Ferreira debuted new material from the forthcoming follow-up to 2013’s Night Time, My Time. The specific tracks, an untitled piece and one tentatively dubbed “Painting With Different Paints”, find Ferreira operating in slightly more anthemic, even dramatic, territory. Check out a few clips below.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Ferreira revealed she’s working with a number of different producers and writers for her sophomore LP, including Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, Ariel Rechtshaid, Justin Raisen, and Andrew Innes.
