Krill announce new album, A Distant Fist Unclenching, share “Torturer” — listen

Boston’s own Krill has announced the release of a new album. Entitled A Distant Fist Unclenching, the follow-up to their 2012 LP Lucky Leaves is due February 17th via Exploding In Sound and Double Double Whammy.

To drum up anticipation for the release, the DIY rock trio has shared the first single, “Torturer”. Unlike the songs on its recent EP, Steve Hears Pile in Malden and Bursts Into Tears, this track is focused less on poop and more on “what most Krill songs have ever been about: self-love and self-hate and the rightness and wrongness of each.”

Frontman Jonah Furman told The FADER that the lyrics to the punchy, shambling song were somewhat inspired by Dostoyevsky. “Crime and Punishment got me thinking about the ‘threshold’ and ‘transgression. In ‘Torturer,’ I look into the torture chamber and decide if it’s time for judgment.”

Pre-orders for the digital version of A Distant Fist Unclenching are going on via Bandcamp, while vinyl copies — the first 150 of which will be clear vinyl — can be ordered here. Below, see the band’s fresh string of international tour dates.
