Before coming together nearly six years ago, the four members of Sprïng spent time in some of East Vancouver’s biggest rock bands. Their collective resumé includes stints with psych rock outfit SSRIs, punk rockers The Rebel Spell, and indie pop acts like Thee Ahs and Bleating Hearts. Culling from such a diverse pool of backgrounds has lent the music of Sprïng not only a knack for feel-good hooks and a certain raw intensity, but a marked sense of experimentalism and curiosity.
As a testament to just that, Sprïng isn’t even waiting for its sophomore album to expand sonically. Today, the band unveils “Levvee”, a standalone single that sees them begin a “more guitar centered future,” with a focus on “guitar interplay and electronics.” While the track definitely emphasizes a triumphant axe amid a sea of swirling psychedelics, what’s more beguiling is the lyrical content. Leaving behind the dense vignettes of this year’s Celebrations LP, Sprïng shifts its gaze inward with an intriguing tale of harrowing emotions and life-affirming acid trips. Listen in below.
You can also watch the song’s accompanying video below. In a press release, the band offers a list of some things to look out for: “Time and space are challenged by vanity. A cat materializes out of a drawing. Someone almost gets run over. Photo Booth make outs. A fridge gets damaged by fire. Sprïng guitarist, Elliot, being a weirdo.” Check it out:
Sprïng will have copes of the “Levvee” 7-inch on sale during next month’s North American tour. Consult the full schedule below.
