Colbert Michael Stipe

Last night marked the penultimate episode of The Colbert Report and Stephen Colbert had some housekeeping to do. As fans of the show are aware, R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe has been sitting on Colbert’s Shelf of Honor since the band’s breakup in 2011, right alongside a passport for his testicles, a bottle of ass juice, and Bill O’Reilly’s microwave. Not everything will make the trip to Colbert’s CBS Late Show, however, so last night he held a yard sale. Stipe went for 50 cents 25 cents. Watch the funny segment below, along with a clip of Stipe, Mandy Patinkin, and Colbert singing “Good King Wenceslas” on a past episode.

Maybe I’m on an island here, but Stipe would make a pretty great bandleader for Colbert when he takes over the Late Show from David Letterman next year.
