Super Amazing Photo

This week, David Bowie celebrated his 68th birthday by ordering Chinese takeout and downing a bottle Two-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe’s. 18 years earlier, however, he did something a bit more grandiose: headline a massive concert at Madison Square Garden which saw guest appearances from Lou Reed, The Cure’s Robert Smith, Foo Fighters, Billy Corgan, Sonic Youth, and PixiesFrank Black.

You can find a whole bunch of clips on YouTube (we embedded Bowie and Reed’s performance of VU’s “White Light/White Heat” for your viewing pleasure below), but perhaps the most spectacular piece of archived media from the night comes in the form of a photograph taken backstage, which Pixies posted to their Facebook page this morning. Q. Is this the greatest group of musicians ever gathered together in one place at the same time? A. Unless Joe Strummer, Kanye West, Jack White, and Right Said Fred had a secret summit together that I don’t know about, I’m gonna say yes.
