John Mayer is helping fill the gap between Craig Ferguson’s departure and James Corden’s arrival by serving as a guest host on CBS’s The Late Late Show. On Thursday night, Mayer welcomed Grateful Dead founding member Bob Weir to the show for an interview and performance.

Weir discussed the band’s impending 50th anniversary reunion at Solider Field this summer. Most notably, he explained that they’ll likely go by the Dead, and not Grateful Dead. “I think the Grateful Dead, you can’t when half of those guys are pushing up daisies, you can’t call it that.”

The real highlight, however, came when Weir took the stage with Mayer to perform a pair of Grateful Dead classics: “Truckin'” and “Althea”. Watch the former performance below and see “Althea” at CBS’ website.
