Johnny Jewel, the producer behind Chromatics, has teamed with first-time director Ryan Gosling to provide the score for Lost River. Thus far, we’ve heard two of Jewel’s contributions to the film’s soundtrack, but now Jewel has revealed a first listen at his score.
As he did for the Gosling-starring Drive, Jewel appears to have focused his score on creating a tense mood. “Bullytown”, which opens with a clip of dialog from actor Matt Smith (Bully), is full of echoing ambiance and gonging percussion. Bursts of synths and sudden volume increases keep you on your toes as it builds to a heart-pounding climax. Check it out:
Despite its critical flogging, Lost River will see release on April 10th. The soundtrack is due March 30th on Italians Do It Better. Chromatics, meanwhile, are releasing a new track every week in the run up to their highly-anticipated new record Dear Tommy, likely coming next month once again from IDIB. The latest taste delivered was “Just Like You”, which you can hear here.
