This week, former Woods bassist Kevin Morby will hit the road with Jessica Pratt in continued support of his latest solo album, Still Life. To help kick off the tour, the singer-songwriter’s linked up with Aquarium Drunkard for a unique recording session featuring three cover songs: “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You” by Bob Dylan; “Caught In My Eye” by The Germs; and “Random Rules” by the Silver Jews.
As to be expected, Morby’s brand of minimalistic folk matches up nicely with both Dylan and the Silver Jews, his cavernous croon and lone acoustic guitar making for subtle yet charming renditions. What’s rather surprising, though, is how he applies that same gentleness to The Germs’ wiry punk rocker … and actually makes it work. It’s impressive, really.
