No, this isn’t an episode of Portlandia, but it doesn’t seem that far off: Last month, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks performed at a Portland-based, family-oriented variety show called You Who. As part of their set, the band covered Taylor Swift’s hit single “Blank Space” from her chart-topping album 1989. Now, video has surfaced so the non-toddler community can share in this strange moment. In hindsight, it’s surprising we haven’t heard a line like “Boys only want love if it’s torture” in a Jicks song yet.
In related news, Pavement’s Bob Nastanovich has revealed that he recently pitched Malkmus on reuniting the band. However, “It did not float,” Nastanovich said. “It was a failed attempt.”
