This year marks the 16th anniversary of Carpark Records, and the Washington, DC-label is celebrating in a big way.
Highlighting the party favors is an exclusive USB drive containing all of the label’s first 100 releases. Chaz Bundick of Toro y Moi designed the race car-shaped drive himself, and of course some of his music is inside, along with releases from Speedy Ortiz, Cloud Nothings, Dan Deacon, Beach House, GRMLN, TEEN, Memory Tapes, and many more. Limited to a run of just 100 and priced at $69, the drive comes bundled with a pair of comfy Carpark-branded sweatpants from American Giant in both men’s and women’s sizes. Images of the package are ahead; peep the complete contents listing and order yours here.
Additionally, Carpark is releasing a 12-inch, basketball-themed picture disc featuring a massive collection of artists and tracks on July 21st. In addition to 19 locked grooves that loop song excerpts from much of the label’s roster, the record features nine brand new, full-length tracks. There’s a demo of Speedy Ortiz’s “Basketball”, plus b-ball-related songs from Young Magic, Skylar Spence, GRMLN, Montag, and more. Asheville indie pop duo Ear Pwr delivered the bubbling new track “Beyond the Arc” for the compilation, and you can check it out below.
Proceeds from the 12-inch benefit the Little Kids Rock non-profit, which is “dedicated to ensuring that all public school children have the opportunity to unlock their inner music makers.” Pre-order the compilation and see the full tracklist here.
In addition to all these goodies, Amazon has a digital sampler called The Best Carpark Compilation In The World…Ever! available for free download, and New York City record store Other Music has a special sale going on for Carpark releases. The digital sampler will also be available on cassette at select retailers beginning April 27th. Sure, it’s a lot of stuff, but you only turn 16 once!
