Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig are two modern monsters of comedy. They both came up as cast members of SNL and have gone on to become stars of some majorly funny cinema masterpieces. That’s why it comes as such a wonderfully head-scratching surprise that their next joint feature will be a Lifetime TV movie dubbed A Deadly Adoption.

No, it’s a real thing. It’s already been filmed.

Update: Ferrell says the project has been scrapped after news was leaked to the media. Or, was it just one big, elaborate April Fool’s joke?

While the film is reportedly “campy and fun and a contemporary wink” at Lifetime‘s own genre of movie, it’s also described as a straight dramatic thriller. The story follows a well-to-do couple (Ferrell and Wiig) who take in a pregnant woman (played by Jessica Lowndes of 90210 fame) in the hopes of eventually adopting the child. As will happen in a Lifetime movie, things take a dangerous turn when the situation spirals out of control.

A Deadly Adoption comes as Lifetime celebrates the 25th anniversary of its made-for-TV film business. Ferrell, who is apparently a big fan of the genre, executive produced alongside Adam McKay through their Gary Sanchez Productions. Rachel Lee Goldenberg directed from a script by Andrew Steele, who previously worked with Wiig and Ferrell on IFC’s The Spoils of Babylon.

Clocking in at two hours long, the film is expected to debut in early summer. Finally, you don’t need to be ashamed of watching a Lifetime original.
