Metric released its fifth studio album, Synthetica, back in 2012. Aside from last winter’s demo “The Fatal Gift”, and a one-off solo track from frontwoman Emily Haines, we haven’t heard much from the Canadian outfit. That finally changes this year, however, as the band promises a new album will be out before 2015’s end.
To help tide fans over just a little longer, Metric’s offered up a preview of what’s to come with “The Shade”. Picking up where the group left off with Synthetica, the track’s a sugary number highlighted by Haines sultry vox and a steady stream of neon synths. “With eternal love, stars above/ all there is and ever was/ I want it all, I want it all,” Haines sings determinedly during the chorus, as though she and the band are more than ready to make their comeback.
